Próximo do retorno, Fábio vive expectativa da "reestreia" no Cruzeiro

Matt Maher drops Villa update on Grealish

The Express and Star’s Matt Maher has dropped an update on Aston Villa talisman Jack Grealish before England’s quarter-final clash against Ukraine at Euro 2020 tonight.

What’s the story?

In what promises to be one of the big transfer stories of the summer window, the 25-year-old has been linked with a big-money move to Premier League champions Manchester City, with reports even suggesting that he was nearing a transfer to the Etihad Stadium.

However, Maher has poured cold water over such speculation, instead insisting that Villa are actually in the best position they have ever been in terms of potentially keeping Grealish at Villa Park.

He reported: “Where Grealish is concerned, Villa are probably in the strongest position they have ever been. In previous years, there was a genuine risk of losing him for well below his market value had they gone into administration (2018), failed to win promotion (2019) or been relegated (2020). Instead, Villa are now considered among the Premier League’s most upwardly-mobile clubs, while Grealish is contracted for the next four years.

“Whatever the next few weeks might bring, there is a sense Villa really cannot lose. Either Grealish stays, or he departs for a colossal fee which would then be reinvested in the playing squad to mitigate his departure.”Of course, the former option is very much the preference for Villa’s billionaire owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, which is why they are ready to offer their captain another significant pay rise less than a year after the last one. It is their wealth which puts Villa in the enviable position to reject, should they wish, any offers which come their way, no matter how high the figures might climb.”Fans will be buzzingWith England’s quarter-final against Ukraine looming on the horizon tonight, Maher’s update on Grealish and where things stand right now, and the position of strength he believes Villa hold over the playmaker, is sure to have the club’s fans buzzing.Make no mistake about it, losing a player of the 25-year-old’s quality would be a hammer blow, especially for a team looking to take that next step and get into Europe over the coming years – his tally of seven goals and 12 assists in an injury-hit 2020/21 season is testament to just how good he is.Therefore, the news that NSWE are preparing to offer Grealish a new contract and a bumper pay rise, instead of looking to cash in on him, must be exciting news for Villa fans and should have them on cloud nine.Meanwhile, Villa are closing in on this big-money signing…

Ed Green26-Apr-2002The contests between these two sides have for the last several season’s been billed as potential championship deciders, historically Surrey and Yorkshire have been the country’s two strongest counties and it is reputed that when they are strong then the national side is strong. Much of the improved performance of the England side in recent years has been built on the success of these two sides.Over the past two seasons however Surrey have achieved two convincing victories at the Oval and winning draws at Scarborough and Headingley despite the way in which the white roses romped to the title in 2001. Surrey had dismantled Sussex in their first match of the season during round one, which the Tykes sat out, to lead the championship at the start (the side are traditionally late starters. The only late starting Surrey were to do today though was their batting after winning the toss, the reason for that was that they spent two sessions destroying a weakened Yorkshire batting line up. In the absence of Vaughan, White and Byas Yorkshire’s batting has a fragile look to it, on the first day against a rampant Alex Tudor it was more white rabbit than white rose.Under bright blue skies on a dry wicket the home side were instantly pinned down the Surrey opening pair before being ground down and finally wiped out. That Lumb scored thirty runs and survived eighty balls is a credit to him, Richardson and Sidebottom also deserve credit for survival and adding a few runs. The rest of the team where, in the words of the Yorkshire Post `Steamrollered’, grateful that Bicknell has not yet got into top gear this season – if he had then their total myay well have been far lower. The batting was for the most part bad, the bowling, a couple of Ormond’s overs aside, excellent and the catching far above the standard that Surrey sometimes display and the innings was over blessedly quickly. After tea Butcher and Ward set about the wayward Yorkshire bowling in truly murderous fashion, smashing Silverwood and Kirby out of the attack before Ryan Sidebottom with his mop of hair and accurate left arm seam bowling returned the game to some semblance of sanity with seven overs for seven runs. When the close came a shell shocked Yorkshire side retreated from the field just twenty five runs ahead having taken no wickets, in effect twenty five all out with three days to play.

Should Everton hire Christophe Galtier?

Farhad Moshiri is an ambitious man. He wouldn’t have brought Carlo Ancelotti to Everton if that wasn’t the case.

A highly decorated manager, the Italian had the lofty goal of taking Everton into the Champions League.

Despite his honours list, this would have been one of his biggest achievements yet. Not since the era of David Moyes have the Toffees qualified for Europe’s top table, but their wait for a place in the group stages goes way beyond that.

Sadly for everyone associated with Goodison Park, Ancelotti will not have the opportunity to finish what he started.

He departed for Real Madrid and left Everton behind in mid-table obscurity. It’s a worrying trend for the Toffees who despite spending plentiful sums on transfer fees, can’t break into the top six.

Not since the 2013/14 campaign when Roberto Martinez was at the helm have they fended off some of the biggest clubs in the country.

Therefore, they need to bring in a manager who knows how to finish above expectations. Rafa Benitez and David Moyes have both been linked but speaking to Sky Sports this week, former Lille director Luis Campos spoke of Christophe Galtier’s qualifications.

The 54-year-old beat the might of PSG to the Ligue 1 crown and has now been touted to take over at Everton.

Campos commented: “Christophe has all the qualities to coach in England, technically he is very astute and is extremely detailed in his planning when preparing a team.”

It’s simple to see why he’d be such a good fit at Everton. He knows how to build players for the future and act shrewdly in the transfer market to achieve his goals.

When he first took over, the club finished 17th in the French top-flight, meaning a fourth consecutive year outside of the top four.

However, he led a phenomenal revival. Lille ended 2018/19 in second, finished fourth in 2019/20 and then won the league this term.

To defeat a team as wealthy as PSG deserves enormous credit, especially when you consider the way he developed players.

Arsenal stars Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel rose to prominence under Galtier while Renato Sanches got his career back on track with Les Dogues in 2020/21.

Lille have had a tendency to lose their best players throughout the years; think Eden Hazard, Yohan Cabaye and Gervinho but after Pepe and Gabriel departed, Galtier replaced them astutely.

Jonathan David has been a revelation under the Frenchman, scoring 13 times since penning terms last summer.

Though, systematically he’d also suit Everton perfectly. Campos added: “He likes a 4-4-2 system, which would fit with the Premier League and he is a fantastic motivator in the dressing room.

“He likes to build a side with quality and youth, he is someone that can develop a team ethic, and he is also a fantastic human being.”

One of the most impressive aspects of Lille’s title win was their defensive organisation.

Everton’s backline was shoddy at times under Ancelotti with Mason Holgate guilty of making several mistakes towards the end of the campaign. They shipped 48 strikes this term, the third-worst record in the top half of the table.

Lille, on the other hand, had the best record of any side in Ligue 1.

They conceded only 23 goals thanks to the experience of Jose Fonte and the youth of Sven Botman, a defender who made for a wonderful Gabriel replacement.

Galtier is improving as a coach all the time and has now proven himself capable of beating the oil-rich clubs that dominate modern football. Moshiri and Kenwright should be all over him.

AND in other news, Kenwright begins talks with “exceptional” 58 y/o boss, he’s Everton’s best candidate…

Rangers suffer Joseph Okumu transfer blow

Rangers’ hopes of signing Joseph Okumu this summer have taken a blow after their Old Firm rivals entered the race to sign him, with it being suggested that Steven Gerrard’s side will have to win a bidding war with other interested clubs if he wants to bring the centre-back to Ibrox ahead of next season.

Rangers were first linked with the Elfsborg defender by Football Insider back in March, with that report suggesting that the Bears were preparing for the potential departures of centre-backs Filip Helander and George Edmundson.

Whilst rumours linking both of those defenders with an Ibrox exit have died down in recent months, it seems as if Okumu is still on Gerrard’s shortlist ahead of the summer, although they will face plenty of competition to bring him in.

Swedish news outlet Aftonbladet have claimed that five clubs including Rangers, Celtic, Lorient, Reims and Gent have all already made bids for the Kenyan defender, who is expected to cost around 40 million krona (£3.4m).

It is no surprise that Okumu is so heavily in demand, as he has impressed since making the move to Sweden. Elfsborg sporting director Stefan Andreasson full of praise for him earlier in the season, saying: “Okumu has been talked about a lot since he came to us.

“We understood that this was a very good player, then he showed maybe the whole of Sweden last year, and also Europe. It is clear that Okumu is one of the best.

“I have said it once before, that he is the best centre-back that has ever been in the Allsvenskan – you can say that sometimes.

“He is destined to have a career outside Scandinavia, which is positive. We must enjoy him as long as he’s here.”

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-rangers-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Read the latest Rangers transfer rumours and news!”]

When Rangers were first linked by Football Insider, there was no mention of any interest from Celtic in that report, so it will surely frustrate Gers fans that their fierce Glasgow rivals have now seemingly entered the race to sign him shortly before the transfer window’s opening.

Whilst the Hoops shouldn’t pose as much of a threat after their disappointing season, their presence could force Rangers into paying over the odds to sign Okumu and perhaps mean that they will need to offer him more in wages than originally anticipated.

However, the Kenya international appears to have a huge amount of potential, so hopefully Ross Wilson will be able to win the race to sign him this summer.

Sergio Santos Rodrigues explica a origem do livro.

Larry Moyo14-Jun-2001The Zimbabwe cricket team stepped up their preparations for the Second Test against India at Harare, the match venue, with both the captain Heath Streak and coach Carl Rackemann confident that the side will put up a more polished performance than they did in the First Test. The side had extensive practice in the nets with the ball and bat, and also did a lot of fielding practice. Zimbabwe batted woefully in the first innings of the Queens Test and were dismissed for a mere 173, a record low for the venue. The bowlers then struggled with the Indian tail, resulting in the tourists taking a commanding 145-run lead. India went on to win the match by eight wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match Zimbabwe Sun series. It was India’s first away win in 15 years and also their first Test win in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe lost two frontline bowlers, Streak and Henry Olonga, a last-minute replacement for Travis Friend, in the match and had only three bowlers for India’s second innings.Streak and Friend are back in the squad for the Second Test which starts on Friday. Streak was confident that he would be in a position to play. “I am giving it one more day of rest before I go flat out in the nets. It should be fine. Our physiotherapist (Amato Machikicho) is quiet confident and I also had an orthopedic surgeon have a look at it in Bulawayo and he was pretty certain that it should be fine.”Streak added that Friend had responded well to treatment after suffering a muscle strain, which forced him to pull out of the Bulawayo Test on the eve of the opening day.”Friend looks good. He was in the nets today and he is bowling with some good pace. It looks as though he is fully fit for the game. Hopefully he wakes up tomorrow feeling good and we won’t have a similar problem like we had in Bulawayo.”Streak said that although they had always played under pressure, this time they were under more pressure to try to level the series. “Being 1-0 down we are under more pressure to try and pull it back. We realised where we had our downfall and the guys are working very hard in the nets to try and rectify that. We batted badly in the first innings. We hope to put it right in this Test and we are ready to go.”He felt that they could have restricted India to a smaller first-innings total than the 318 they made. India had slumped to 178 for six after the dismissal of leading batsman Sachin Tendulkar in the 53rd over. But they were allowed to bat for another 36 overs in which spinner Harbhajan Singh, coming in at number nine, made his highest Test score of 66. It was India’s second highest contribution after the 74 by Tendulkar.”Obviously we always realised that their top order was the danger and we really worked hard but I think that the loss of Henry Olonga put an extra load of work on the bowlers. We let Harbhajan Singh get away with a bit more than we should have, which allowed their tail to wag. Hopefully we won’t let that happen again with a better balanced side, without any injuries.”Carl Rackemann was impressed with his side’s preparations. “Firstly these practice wickets are the best I have seen them and that’s a good start for us. And our worries of injuries: Henry is going to be out but Heath Streak is coming back. Travis Friend has had a good bowling session today and he looks good.”So we look like going into the Test without any injury or fitness worries. Skillwise today has been a very good day in batting, bowling and fielding. On Thursday we will spent a little bit of time talking about the game and the last match in Bulawayo. Our first innings batting is high on the list of the things to be discussed. It won’t be as physically demanding, especially for the bowlers playing in the match.”The Australian coach said that they had learnt a lesson from the Bulawayo Test. “I think the batting in the first innings was filled with poor shot selection, playing a wrong shot to the wrong ball and lacking patience while at the crease and we were also not positive. We are going to address that. In the Second Test we have to bat like we did in the second innings at Queens in both innings.”Rackemann was also disappointed with the way Harbhajan Singh was allowed to score his 66 from 125 balls, hitting 10 fours and a six. “Principally Harbhajan Singh was the man who did most of the damage and we have to make sure that it does not happen again. We will have to bowl differently to him than the way we did in Bulawayo and make sure that there is no repeat of that."

Leeds United handed Marcelo Bielsa contract boost

Leeds United have been handed a major boost with Marcelo Bielsa said to be on the verge of agreeing a new contract at Elland Road.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent weeks have linked the Argentine with the vacant manager’s job at fellow Premier League side Spurs, and with Bielsa’s own deal at Leeds coming to an end this summer, there may have been fears he could leave.

However, The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has delivered a double boost to the club’s fans by revealing some crucial information from ongoings at Thorp Arch.

First, he revealed on Twitter that Bielsa has no interest in the Spurs job or the thought of living in London, and then confirmed the biggest news of all by declaring that the 65-year-old is close to agreeing a new deal at Elland Road.

He wrote: “Telegraph Sport understands there is an expectation behind the scenes at Elland Road that Bielsa has decided to stay and remains totally committed to the project he started back in 2018.

“Although nothing has been signed at this stage, the Leeds hierarchy do not anticipate there being any problems agreeing terms when the paperwork is presented to him after the final game of the season.”

Fans will be buzzing

Make no mistake about it, news of Bielsa being “on the verge” of putting pen to paper on a new deal to stay at Elland Road will be music to the ears of Leeds fans.

The Whites were brought back from their Championship slumber by the Argentine, who has established a real identity at the club with his methods and reconnected the fan-base with its players.

And, after the news emerged of Bielsa’s likelihood of signing a new deal, Leeds fans were quick to voice their relief and joy on Twitter.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Read the latest Leeds transfer rumours and news!”]

Bielsa has very much become a talismanic figure at Elland Road, and it’s difficult to imagine a future without him being at the helm, crouched down in the dugout and barking out instructions in wild animation.

Bielsa has become Leeds, and the club have become the image of the Argentine.

Meanwhile, Marcelo Bielsa may be set for an exciting summer transfer window…
