It’s been a summer of much change at Sheffield United.

Firstly, Chris Wilder was axed from his job post at Bramall Lane after failing to clinch promotion to the Premier League, as former Hull City boss Ruben Selles was then unveiled as his surprise successor.

There has also been plenty of change with the on-the-pitch personnel, with Rhian Brewster recently walking away from South Yorkshire for a new challenge at Derby County, on top of Kieffer Moore being tipped to link up with Championship newcomers Wrexham.

Moore’s move to the Blades just didn’t work out for the most part in the end, as the experienced EFL marksman never quite got up to speed with what was expected of him in United red and white.

Wilder would have purchased Moore hoping he could be a key part of the Bramall Lane jigsaw as promotion was triumphantly achieved.

After all, when the imposing 6-foot-5 menace has been at the top of his game, he’s proven himself to be a nuisance in the EFL’s elite division, having bagged a total of 59 strikes in the Championship across his playing days to date.

Unfortunately, Moore’s wretched luck with injuries would derail his short-term stay in South Yorkshire, with only six goals mustered up by the Welshman when he was free of those recurring issues.

Wrexham will be hoping he isn’t a permanent fixture of the Racehorse Ground treatment room this coming season, considering they’ve reportedly forked out £2m for his services, as a deal edges ever closer to being confirmed.

United will just be looking to put the failure of the move quickly behind them, with this free agent now standing out as an ideal replacement for the unlucky 32-year-old.

However, the ex-Tigers manager’s options in attack would really be boosted by the standout return of Oli McBurnie to Bramall Lane, with recent reports by the Sheffield Star indicating that an official offer had been lodged by the Blades to bring the free agent forward back to familiar surroundings.

McBurnie is very much built in the same mould as the towering Moore, with the Scotsman coming in at a lofty 6-foot-2 frame, with a potent edge in front of goal also very much present in his game, especially when plying his trade in the Championship.

The 29-year-old even gave a glowing account of himself last season in La Liga with Las Palmas when registering a reasonable three goals and six assists – which is a heftier tally overall that Moore’s own haul last season in England – with a hunger surely within McBurnie to return to Bramall Lane and be a success again, having already been part of one magical promotion journey in South Yorkshire.

In total, McBurnie has helped himself to a lethal 44 strikes in the demanding division previously, with his work ethic for Swansea even being heralded as “incredible” by his then-Swans boss Graham Potter.

That amount overall means he is only 14 strikes off matching Moore’s bumper Championship total, with a desire surely on McBurnie’s end to try and eclipse the Welshman’s output if he returns to the Steel City shortly.

The one-time £20m signing will likely be welcomed back with open arms, and if he can get back to his ‘”unbelievable” best – as he was once dubbed by former Blades teammate John Egan – another promotion might be on the cards under Selles.

An aggressive 81-run stand between Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana combined with some excellent catching gave India a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series against West Indies.Deandra Dottin led the fight in the 196 chase with a 28-ball 52 along with Qiana Joseph, but in the end West Indies fell 49 short with young medium-pacer Titas Sadhu taking three crucial wickets for India.Mandhana’s new opening partnerWith Shafali Verma dropped, Mandhana had a new opening partner in Uma Chetry, who was playing her fifth T20I. West Indies introduced spin as early as the second over after opting to bowl first, bringing in left-arm spinner Zaida James to bowl to Mandhana. Thirteen runs came off it, with Mandhana pulling her for a four first ball and Chetry punishing her with back-to-back boundaries through the covers. Hayley Matthews brought herself on in the fourth over to bowl against the left-handed Mandhana but she was instead taken for two consecutive fours off the first two balls. Dottin was at her usual best – she got off the mark with an 80m hit over deep midwicket and single-handedly kept the scoring rate up despite little help from the other end. After being dropped the first time on 40, she went on to smash a six and a four to get to her half-century off just 26 balls. But she could not capitalise on her second life after being dropped on 52, getting out the next ball to Sadhu. That was pretty much the game for West Indies, who at that point needed 70 off 31 balls.

وأضاف: “في الشوط الثاني، حين تشعر بانهيار الفريق، إذا لم يكن لدى المدرب تدخلات لتعديل الأداء، فهو لا يستحق أن يكون مدرباً لنادي الزمالك”.

وأشار: “يانيك فيريرا عندما جاء في البداية كان يقف على الخط متحمساً وغاضباً، أما الآن فأصبح يقف واضعاً يده في جيبه، وتشعر وكأنه يملك شيئاً من الغرور والتكبر”.

وأردف: “فيريرا ارتكب خطأً فادحاً حين دفع بناصر منسي كأول تغيير وهو غير جاهز، وكأن أحدهم أخبره أن ناصر معتاد على التسجيل في الأهلي، فقام بإشراكه على الفور وهو ليس في كامل لياقته”.

وشدد: “لست حزيناً من النتيجة أو الخسارة بحد ذاتها، ما يحزنني هو أن فيريرا أوصل اللاعبين إلى هذه الحالة، لقد ارتكب كارثة حين أفرغ وسط الملعب في وقت كان عبد الله السعيد قد بذل مجهوداً كبيراً، فقام بإخراج دونجا، هذا المدرب لا يبدو أنه يدرك معنى مباراة القمة ولا أهميتها”.

واختتم: “مباراة الأمس كشفت مستوى اللاعبين؛ آدم كايد بدا وكأنه طفل صغير، (لاعب طري) عدم رحيل فيريرا سيكون مجرد عناد من الإدارة، فمنذ البداية قلنا إن الزمالك أكبر من قدراته، والآن مع اقتراب فترة التوقف، يمكن استقدام مدرب محلي بدلاً منه”.

Tottenham Hotspur are widely reported to be in talks over a deal for Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze, but he isn’t their only playmaking target, as chairman Daniel Levy assesses alternative options too.

A dramatic late move for Eze would seriously help to put a pretty miserable recent few weeks behind Spurs.

In the space of a few days in early August, Thomas Frank was forced to both wave an emotional goodbye to club legend Son Heung-min and find a way to cope without the creative influence of James Maddison.

Since Son’s departure, Cristian Romero has replaced the South Korean as captain of the Lilywhites, but Frank is still attempting to fill the gaping void left by Maddison’s serious injury.

Hearts were in mouths when the 28-year-old collapsed to the turf and was stretched off against Newcastle in Seoul, and it has since been confirmed that Maddison will miss most of the 2025/2026 season after suffering an ACL rupture.

Before losing Son and Maddison in different respects, Tottenham missed out on a £60m deal for Morgan Gibbs-White in the most bizarre fashion imaginable.

The original plan was to complement Maddison with Gibbs-White’s arrival, but in a sorry state of affairs, Frank heads into the new season with neither – despite going as far as to book a medical for the latter last month.

Dejan Kulusevski’s lengthy lay-off with an injury compounds Tottenham’s troubles, but their newly-opened talks for Eze have sparked some hope that the north Londoners can back Frank with a much-needed new creator before the summer deadline.

Spurs are in negotiations to sign both Eze and Man City winger Savinho in separate deals right now, but as we’ve seen from their transfer window so far, Tottenham’s business is rarely so straightforward.

If a deal cannot be done for Eze, the club do have fallback targets, and one of them is Como sensation Nico Paz.

Last week, Sky Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Tottenham had a £35 million offer rejected for Paz, but his colleague Michael Bridge now states that Frank’s side are still there for the Argentine.

According to Bridge, in a fresh Sky Sports update, it is believed that Tottenham are still weighing up Paz as an option in their search for a number 10, but it could be a very difficult deal to do.

“The main players Spurs want are a No 10, a defender and a winger,” reported Bridge in a Q&A.

“Eberechi Eze is a player who’s been on their radar for some time. But before now, it’s never gone beyond someone they’ve got an interest in.

“Now the Crystal Palace midfielder can be considered among their top targets. They are also assessing other targets, including Como’s Nico Paz – but that is looking like a difficult deal to do.”

Cesc Fabregas’ Como have set a valuation of around £60 million for the 20-year-old, which is a similar price to Eze, and could arguably be viewed as much more of a gamble.

Paz has just one full season of regular football under his belt, with Spurs in need of a more proven playmaker right now, despite some praise from footballing icon Lionel Messi.

“Nico has many qualities and understands the game perfectly,” said Messi.

“He has an impressive mind and is working with a coach who is my friend (Cesc Fabregas) who will help him grow even more.”

وقال أبو ريدة في تصريحات عبر بودكاست بيت الكورة: “أهدأ مجلس عملت فيه كان مجلس عام 1996، وكنت فيه إلى جانب الكابتن سمير زاهر، والمجموعة كانت لطيفة جدًا، كنا نحو ستة أو سبعة أفراد، وربما كانت قلة العدد سببًا في الهدوء والانسجام داخل المجلس”.

وأضاف: “بصراحة أنا أتعامل مع أي مجلس دون مشكلات، وأؤدي عملي بجدية وضمير، حتى إن وُجدت بعض الخلافات، لا أركز عليها، بل أواصل عملي في هدوء، والكابتن سمير كان دائم المزاح، وكان يقول لي (يا ابني، أنت ماسك الكورة وماسك الفلوس) يقصد بذلك أنني كنت مسؤولًا عن المنتخبات وأمانة الصندوق في الوقت ذاته”.

وأوضح: “لا أستطيع القول إنني واجهت مجلسًا مليئًا بالمشكلات، بالعكس، كنت مرتاحًا وسعيدًا في كل المجالس التي شاركت فيها”.

وعن مجلس عام 2016، أجاب: “ذلك المجلس كان من أصعب الفترات، لأنه ضم شخصيات قوية واختلافات عديدة، لكن رغم ذلك كان يسوده احترام متبادل، وقد ترتفع الأصوات قبل الاجتماعات، لكن بمجرد انعقاد الجلسة يسود الهدوء، وكأن شيئًا من السحر يحدث وقتها”.

وأكمل هاني أبو ريدة: “أنا ضد أن يخرج عضو مجلس إدارة لانتقاد المجلس أو رئيسه في وسائل الإعلام، أنا في اتحاد الكرة منذ أكثر من 35 عامًا، ولم يحدث أن هاجمت زميلًا علنًا، مكان النقاش الطبيعي هو داخل غرفة الاجتماعات، أمّا خارجها فلكلٍ حدوده”.

وزاد: “تخيل أنني قضيت سنوات طويلة داخل اتحاد الكرة، ومع ذلك لا أعرف حتى مكان غرفة الحكام، لأنها ببساطة ليست من اختصاصي، وكل شخص يجب أن يعرف حدود مسؤولياته، في رأيي، المجلس الناجح هو الذي يحتوي الخلافات داخله، وهذا ما يميز النادي الأهلي، الذي يُدير اختلافاته داخل الغرف المغلقة، بعيدًا عن الإعلام”.

وواصل: “لم أحزن من الكابتن مجدي عبد الغني إطلاقًا، أنا دائمًا أحرص على احترام المجلس ومكانته، وأي قرار نتخذه لا يكون شخصيًا، بل حفاظًا على كيان الاتحاد واحترام المكان، وكل الزملاء بمن فيهم مجدي يحبونني جدًا على المستوى الشخصي، وعندما أراه أضحك معه، ولا أحمل في نفسي أي ضيق أو غضب، لم أتوقف عند أي تصريحات أو انتقادات، ولا أتابعها من الأساس”.

وعن الإعلامي أحمد شوبير، أجاب أبو ريدة: “أنا لا أنزعج من انتقاداته، وأتعامل معها بروح طيبة، أحيانًا أقول له مازحًا (انت ليه كده يا حاج؟)، فيضحك ويقول إنه لم ينتبه لما قاله، هو صاحب شخصية خاصة، وأنا لا أحزن منه أبدًا”.

وتحدث أبو ريدة عن المجلس الحالي قائلًا: “صحيح أنه لا يضم نجومًا كبارًا من لاعبي الكرة السابقين، لكن يضم شخصيات تملك خبرة إدارية كبيرة، وعددًا من رؤساء الأندية السابقين، كما أننا نعمل مع لجنة فنية قوية تضم رموز الكرة المصرية مثل الكابتن حسن شحاتة، وعلي أبو جريشة، ومحسن صالح، ومحمد عمر، وحلمي طولان”

واستطرد: “حرصت أيضًا على ضم عناصر من الجيل الأصغر مثل عبد الظاهر السقا وأحمد حسن، حتى يكون هناك توازن بين الخبرة والشباب، وهما يعملان بجدية ويتابعان كل ما يخص المنتخبات وبرامجها”.

وأتم: “أنا راضٍ تمامًا عن أداء المجلس الحالي، وخلال ثمانية أشهر فقط حققنا إنجازات كبيرة إداريًا وماليًا، عندما توليت المسؤولية كانت الرواتب المتوفرة لشهرين فقط، والحمد لله استطعنا تجاوز ذلك، والاتحاد يسير الآن بثبات، لدينا ثلاثة منتخبات وصلت إلى كأس العالم، وهذا إنجاز نفتخر به جميعًا”.

Michael Bevan has been elevated to the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame after a tweak to the criteria governing selection.Bevan, one of Australia’s greatest white-ball players, scored 6912 runs at 53.58 from 232 ODIs while routinely steering his side to victory in chases. The batter’s last-ball four, to secure a one-wicket win at the SCG on New Year’s Day in 1996, ranks highly among the sport’s most iconic moments.Other famous moments include making 102 off 95 balls against New Zealand at the MCG in 2002, to lead Australia to victory after they had been 82 for 6, and his unbeaten 74 against England at the 2003 World Cup.Bevan, who featured in both the 1999 and 2003 World Cup wins, has been eligible for elevation for 15 years. But, until last month, the Hall of Fame’s rules penalised him for a relatively-modest Test career that spanned 18 matches.”It was Michael’s exceptional playing record and public standing that pushed the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame Committee to review its selection criteria,” Hall of Fame chairman Peter King explained.”To ensure players who excelled in one-day or Twenty20 Internationals were equally recognised as those who shone in the Test format. Michael without a doubt revolutionised white-ball cricket and became a household name for his masterful batting, amazing athleticism and ability to chase down runs.”Cricket Australia chief executive Nick Hockley described Bevan as an “icon and a pioneer”.”He was a favourite among fans with his incredible temperament and ability to deliver in pressure situations,” Hockley said. He is a two-time World Cup winner and finished his career with one of best records in 50-over cricket. He was also one of the most prolific run-scorers in the Sheffield Shield during what was one of the strongest eras in Australian cricket.”Representing Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania, South Australia, Yorkshire, Sussex, Leicestershire and Kent, Bevan played 237 first-class matches making 19,147 runs at 57.32 including 68 centuries and 81 half centuries with a top score of 216.Bevan follows this season’s previous inductees, Michael Clarke and Christina Matthews.
