Sabe quanto dinheiro eu tenho no banco, amigo?

Levy open to selling £60m Tottenham star as Real Madrid discuss signing him

Tottenham Hotspur and chairman Daniel Levy are believed to be changing their minds about selling a star player this summer, with La Liga giants Real Madrid also holding internal talks over a potential deal for him.

Tottenham stars attracting interest ahead of this summer

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou, if he is indeed still in the job by next season, will likely have to contend with elite clubs attempting to poach his key squad members this summer.

52-year-old holds talks with Levy to join Tottenham as "rich offer" readied

The Lilywhites chairman personally met with him yesterday.

The Lilywhites, according to TEAMtalk, are mindful of AC Milan and Atlético Madrid’s serious interest in midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur as one example. Both European heavyweights are apparently considering a swoop for the Uruguay international this summer, and Spurs are set to open formal new contract talks with Bentancur as they look to stave them off.

The £75,000-per-week ace’s contract expires in 2026, meaning time is running out for Tottenham to tie him down with fresh terms, and if they can’t, then a sale this summer could be a real possibility.

Meanwhile, there have even been suggestions that Bayern Munich are weighing up a surprise move for Son Heung-min this summer. Tottenham recently triggered the one-year extension clause in his contract, meaning he won’t be leaving until next year, but Bayern could apparently try and tempt Levy into an early transfer.

A lot of speculation has also surrounded star centre-back Cristian Romero and his long-term future at N17, with Atlético also said to be expressing an interest in the Argentine World Cup-winner alongside Bentancur.

Romero is apparently prepared to leave Tottenham this summer as well, following the club’s dismal 2024/2025, but Atlético are not the player’s only temptation.

Tottenham stance on selling Cristian Romero as Real Madrid eye move

According to GiveMeSport, Diego Simeone’s arch rivals Real are also eyeing up a move for the South American. The Galacticos are widely rumoured to be on the hunt for a big-name central defender this summer, and Romero is on their list of star-studded targets.

The outlet reports that Tottenham are now tempted to sell Romero, following a significant U-turn behind-the-scenes, and Real have held internal talks over a swoop for the 26-year-old.

While the club have relaxed their stance over an exit deal for him, Spurs have most recently demanded £60 million to let go of Romero, and Atlético in particular are set to fall short as things stand.

Simeone’s side want to open talks over a transfer worth £33 million, but this is set to fall short of Levy’s demands. While Real haven’t yet made contact with Tottenham or Romero’s camp, there is a distinct possibility they could do, if they decide he is indeed the right man to bolster their backline.

PCB might postpone West Indies series in 2024 to avoid clash with PSL

The board has also requested the Emirates Cricket Board to pull back the ILT20 by ten days to avoid overlapping

Pakistan, according to ICC’s FTP, are scheduled to host West Indies for two Tests and three T20Is in February and March 2024•PCB

The PCB is weighing up options to postpone the home series against West Indies, slated for February and March in 2024, which is clashing with the next edition of PSL. The PCB has also requested the Emirates Cricket Board to pull back their ILT20 league by ten days to avoid overlappingPakistan, according to ICC’s FTP, are scheduled to host West Indies for two Tests and three T20Is early next year, which has also been the window for conducting the PSL since 2016. In the last PSL governing council meeting, it was affirmed that the PCB can “sacrifice” the home series. The board has opened up discussions with several stakeholders now in a bid to have a clear window for the next PSL.If the PCB conducts the West Indies series after Ramzan, which is after the second week of April, they could face another challenge. With the IPL scheduled for April-May, several West Indies players might be unavailable for the bilateral series in Pakistan. The PCB hasn’t said anything on when the series could be rescheduled but there were discussions on the possibility of playing the home series during the month of Ramadan – March to April. However, playing Tests during that month will pose serious challenges with players observing fasting. That said, the PCB had conducted a limited-overs series against New Zealand during the month of Ramadan this year, where the five-match T20I series was played at night and the five ODIs were conducted post-Ramzan.Related

PSL expansion faces a few roadblocks

With regards to the PSL, the six-team tournament now runs for 34 days. Due to Ramzan, its window is restricted from February 12 to March 10. With the ILT20 scheduled for January 13 to February 12 in 2024, the PCB has requested the UAE board for a ten-day concession. It’s likely that the PCB might also release its players to sign a contract with the ILT20, a move floated as a bargain after the Pakistan board had turned down NOCs for a batch of Pakistan players for the league in the inaugural edition.Meanwhile, the PCB is also planning to introduce two more franchises in the PSL, possibly extending the window by ten days. The PSL and finance departments are currently forming a proposal on the financial distribution model, scheduling, and the commercial aspect to try and convince the existing six teams for the expansion, which is facing a few roadblocks including its window.

Williamson ups his training a notch, but is 'not right at the level' he needs to be yet

“It’s nice to see him with a bat in his hand and hitting the balls again,” says Stead

Kane Williamson is back in the nets, hitting balls and continuing his recovery following surgery for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee, but, as Gary Stead put it, his batting and fitness are “not right at the level that he is to perform internationally” yet.Speaking on the sidelines of a New Zealand men’s team training camp at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, Williamson said in a video released by Cricket New Zealand, “Great to see some of the guys and some of the new faces too. Looking forward to the team camp. Nice to have it here at home as well in the Mount [Maunganui], and get into some training and to just reconnect a little bit.”He isn’t ready for proper action yet – New Zealand are getting ready for fixtures against UAE and England at the moment – but is trying to get back to where he needs to be to start thinking about a return to the game.”Nice to be on the bike, do fitness sessions on the bike, and progressing from the lower level, stuff that’s really, really controlled, to getting better with my movements and be able to incorporate some of the batting aspects, you know, when you move your feet a little bit more,” he said. “Yes, still a bit of work to do, so keep working hard, really.”

On August 1, Williamson had posted a short clip of him batting on Instagram with the caption “Nice to be back in the nets with the bat in hand for a few throws”.It’s progressed a little bit from there.”It’s nice to see him with a bat in his hand and hitting the balls again, albeit it’s not right at the level that he is to perform internationally,” Stead, New Zealand’s head coach, said. “It’s set certainly on the road to recovery, and it’s hugely silver linings in injuries and how you look at them, and to keep saying, ‘hey, I am invested in this team and I really want to keep playing for this team’, is magic to hear.”Williamson is still the No. 1 batter in the ICC Test rankings despite not playing a Test after March 2023 and any cricket since rupturing his ACL while playing for Gujarat Titans in the opening match of IPL 2023 on March 31. He had to be carried off the field then, and was subsequently ruled out of the IPL and possibly even the 2023 ODI World Cup at the time.He returned to New Zealand and had surgery in April, and it was later reported that if he wasn’t fit to play the World Cup in October-November, he might still travel with the team as a mentor. However, in June, news emerged that Williamson had not given up on being a part of the World Cup as a player, and there remained an outside chance he would recover in time for the tournament that starts with New Zealand playing England in Ahmedabad on October 5.

Jamie Porter hands Middlesex a repeat dose as Essex stay alive in title race

Seamer’s six-for echoes opening-round rout as Cook builds on 125-run lead at Chelmsford

Andrew Miller05-Sep-2023

Jamie Porter made the early inroads for Essex•Getty Images

Essex 304 (Browne 59, Cook 58, De Caires 8-106) and 104 for 1 (A Cook 44*) lead Middlesex 179 (Porter 6-34) by 229 runsThe harder that Essex toil to keep pace in this title race, the further adrift of Surrey’s rampant frontrunners they seem to end up being. Barely 15 minutes were on the clock at Chelmsford when word drifted up the A12 that Warwickshire had lost their third wicket of the morning to slump to a dismal innings defeat at the Kia Oval – by which stage Essex too were back in the pavilion, courtesy of Josh De Caires’ eighth wicket of their first innings – leaving them all out for 304, and with a net loss of one batting point on their South London rivals. And yet, to Essex’s credit – and Jamie Porter’s in particular – they were still in there fighting for this title by the close of the second day. After a day of harder graft than might have been envisaged after Porter – not for the first time this season – had overseen the obliteration of Middlesex’s top four in the space of his first four overs, Essex strolled through to the close with a lead of 229 and nine wickets intact, courtesy of Alastair Cook’s unbeaten 44, his second substantial knock of the match. With the sun set to blaze for two more days and this used pitch likely to get dustier even if it has eased out for now, there’s no reason to believe that Essex won’t be leaving this contest with a 21-point haul under their belts, to keep their challenge mathematically alive – at least until Surrey have seen off the relegation-bound Northamptonshire in their next home fixture in a fortnight’s time. More’s the pity that the lop-sided scheduling in the top flight has denied us a return clash of the top two, after Surrey were forced to cling on for a feisty draw on this ground back in May.Still, Essex aren’t done with the scrapping just yet. There’s so much residual excellence within this red-ball set-up that, on a rare off-day for Simon Harmer – their most obvious weapon in light of De Caires’ impact, but restricted on this occasion to a solitary wicket in the deep – their standards were maintained instead by their other pair of Old Faithfuls, Porter and Sam Cook, with a combined analysis of 9 for 80 in 22.5 overs.Porter emerged with the lion’s share of that haul – 6 for 34 in 12.5, his best figures of the season … by one run, after his 6 for 35 had routed Middlesex in their previous meeting at Lord’s in April’s season opener. On that occasion, the top four had contributed not a single run to a ghastly scoreline of 4 for 4, and so today’s collapse to 25 for 4 was comparative riches. The division of labour, however, was all too familiar for a put-upon batting line-up – three for Porter, one for Cook, and scarcely a moment’s let-up between them. Mark Stoneman was the first to go, driving loosely on the up to pick out Paul Walter in the covers, whereupon Joe Cracknell – playing his second Championship fixture and his first in two years – was followed by a fourth-ball inducker that Harmer scooped up at second slip.Sam Robson was bowled by Jamie Porter as Middlesex collapsed at Chelmsford•Andrew Miller/ESPNcricinfo Ltd

Three overs later, Porter had his and Essex’s third – and the best of the innings – as Sam Robson played down the wrong line of a perfect seaming delivery that straightened around his outside edge to flatten his off stump. And three balls after that, Cook – aiming full and threatening from round the wicket – pinned a tentative Jack Davies on the shin as he failed to commit fully on the front foot, and the innings was in freefall. The stage was set for Harmer, entering from the River End with licence to rip his offies and invite a catatonic line-up to implode. With India’s Test seamer Umesh Yadav hitting a hard length in his first spell as an Essex cricketer, Middlesex ground out a total of three runs in ten overs, including 35 consecutive dot-balls, until Max Holden denied Harmer a fifth consecutive maiden with a firm sweep through square leg. With Holden and John Simpson just beginning to creep out of their foxholes, back came Porter from the Hayes Close End, and down went Middlesex’s fifth wicket, as Simpson was pinned on the crease for 16, albeit the impact was on the high side of leg-sided. Porter didn’t care how they came, and before his 12th over was done, he’d bagged his own fifth, as Holden’s fighting knock ended with a tame clip back to the bowler for 30. Though Ryan Higgins and De Caires displayed some panache in their respective rearguards – the latter with a ramp for four off Porter than his old man certainly didn’t teach him – Essex would not be denied in their push for a substantive125-run lead.Porter duly delivered it by pinning Ethan Bamber lbw for 0, and in the wake of his back-to-back five-fors against Hampshire in Essex’s last Championship outing in July, he’d rushed past 50 wickets for the season too – quite the bounce-back after a fallow summer in 2022, in which his injury-plagued haul of 19 at 30.89 had left him contemplating his future as he approached his 30th birthday.Instead, after a renewed fitness drive – aided in no small part by a winter in Melbourne alongside Essex’s Australian bowling coach Mick Lewis – Porter’s now racked up 53 at 16.92, by a distance his best season since his annus mirablis in 2017, when he powered Essex’s title charge with 85 wickets at 16.74, and earned himself a 12th-man berth in England’s Test plans against India the following summer. Those England hopes, even Porter might accept, are long gone now – while Cook’s seem destined never to arrive in the first place, even though, at the age of 26 and with a first-class average below 20, his credentials could scarcely be more presentable. But all’s the more reason why this Essex era is of such enduring importance to this squad of players. Given all that they’ve achieved in the past six years and more, they are not quite ready to accept that their mantle of red-ball trendsetters has slipped away to the South-West.
